On Dragons

Why my interest in dragons? In Chinese astrology, there are five types of dragons: metal, water, wood, fire and earth.

In our family, we have three generations of dragons: I am a Water Dragon. My father is an Earth Dragon. My daughter is a Fire Dragon. I have two cousins who are also Water Dragons. [No wonder we all go our own way!]

Over a 100-year cycle, Water Dragons' birth years were 1892, 1952, or will be 2012.

A Water Dragon is a less imperious type of Dragon who favors optimum growth and expansion. She can put aside her ego for the good of all and is less selfish and opinionated. An inhibited but progressive person, she tries hard not to be as conspicuous as other power-hungry Dragons. Neither is she going to be labeled as the conciliatory one. She can assume a wait-and-see attitude and her wits are as formidable as her strength of will.

The Water Dragon lives by the to-thine-own-self -be-true philosophy and will not seek revenge on those who choose to go the opposite way. Democratic and liberal-minded, she can accept defeat or rejection without bitterness [editorial note: well, sometimes without bitterness.]

Water is calming and beneficial to her lunar sign [that would be Scorpio] and she will know how to act wisely and do what is essential for her progress.She is quick and reliable and is capable of marketing her ideas with untiring devotion. She is likely to be successful as a negotiator, as she knows when, where and how to apply force.

Her main drawback is that she may be like an over-optimistic builder who forgets to reinforce the foundation. By trying to hold on to too much, she may lose everything. She must learn to make difficult choices and to relinquish whatever is unfeasible or unnecessary. This way, she will be able to devote her energies to fewer but more rewarding endeavors.
