Dragon Mood? -- introspective

Yesterday, to avoid a long wait at a train crossing,I took some unexplored back roads to get home to the house in the woods.

The roads were powdered with snow, possibly slippery. I drove slowly, taking my time, focused on my passage over the unknown roads. In hindsight, I felt very much 'in the moment'.

The sky was overcast. I kept looking at the passing landscape as if I were going to (try to) paint it. Everything was grayed and flat, a matte filter over my eyes. The only shine I could see was the light bouncing off isolated wet, smooth areas on the asphalt road.

Everything in the landscape looked outlined in white, as if sugar-powdered with the lightest of Mother Nature's touch. All the bare foliage looked soft, in a multitude of shades of taupe, brown and gray, almost as if they were airbrushed. Soft, matte and monochromatic.

Other than the sound of my car, things were quiet. People's homes appeared dark and empty or more accurately, still. It was an hour or so before dusk and even then, I didn't see lights in people's windows. The stillness and quiet of those passing moments was almost palpable.

I felt an incredible sense of stillness and peace. An extra-ordinary experience ... simply driving home from errands.

Dragon Mood? -- a bit schizoid?

Lina and Yosh, my two chicks, my progeny, dearest to my heart, are at the farm in Texas this weekend. ~sigh~ Sadly, I chose not to go, so I'm experiencing these weird here/there feelings about it all. I've called them, hmm, let's see ... uh, five times in the past 24 hours? Yeah, I'm sort of a combination stalker and wistful, empty-nest mother.

SO-o-ooo, what can I do? What's with this photo over here?

This is the front door of the farmhouse. This is the door painted the color of some classy, sexy dame's LIPS. This is the door with a paint color selected by a MALE(!). This is the door that Paul and Aaron sanded, oh so lovingly, propped up against a tree trunk. This is the door I painted, oh so pleasurably, under a tree in the backyard. This is the door with the cool, soaring-swallows screen on it that Aunt Doris bought for her mama and daddy back in the day when money was tight, mama longed for nice things and daddy was too practical to spring for it. This is the door NEXT to the post that brought out the cursing, yelling part of me, all aimed at Aaron (another story that you'll never read here).

One more noteworthy item for today: Today is a blue moon. The moon was full earlier this month on May 2nd and it will be full today, May 31st as well. Happy Blue Moon, everybody!

Bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas. In mid- to late March the bluebonnets usually come out in full force.

I think this photo of Jeff Clow's from flickr is simply stunning.

Color Vocabulary

Dragon Mood? -- green with envy

Sitting on my keyboard awaiting my attention, I ripped this page out of some magazine a while back. I'm finally going to post these Color Vocabulary definitions. They're short, sweet and pretty easy to understand.

VALUE: The lightness or darkness of a particular color. Light blue, medium blue and dark blue have the same hue but a different value.

SHADE: Those colors with values nearest black such as the darkest blue and the darkest red. (Easy-to-remember hint: Imagine black with a shade of red or blue.)

TINT: Those colors with values closest to white such as the lightest blue and the lightest red. (Easy-to-remember hint: Imagine white with a tint of blue or red.)

HUE: Lighter or darker variations are of the same hue. Thus, a light red and a deep red are of the same hue. The hue [or color] of this square is aqua.

TONE: A color's intensity, brightness or dullness. When gray is added to a color like red, for example, it dulls the intensity and renders it a darker tone.
